iPhoto maps or iPhoto Places are the new feature which has been added to Apple iPhoto 09. With this place feature of iPhoto it can tell you the location of the place where you have taken the photos by putting them on a Google map. With GPS enabled camera you can simply organize your photos and add locations. With theses kinds GPS enabled camera photos are already geotagged. You only need to do is download the photos from camera on to your Mac system.
If you do not have GPS enabled camera then you do need to get depressed as you can still use Places. For doing this you need to type the info about where the photos were taken. For each photo it is not necessary to do it individually. If your photos of one particular location are in one iPhoto event or iPhoto album you can simply tag them all at one time.
Additionally to the photos location tags from the camera, iPhone, or the typed info, iPhoto can also tag them according to nearby landmarks. This is accomplished in conjunction with Google Maps. If you take a picture while white water rafting along the Zambezi River close to the thundering Victoria Falls, iPhoto will tag your picture "Victoria Falls".
You can use iPhoto maps for navigating your photos by location. You can navigate through all of your photos through iPhoto Google Maps, as an alternative also you can use column browser to click through the name of location from country to state or to city.
