Password Protect iPhoto


Are you not in a mood to share your photos with others and you desire to protect your iPhoto library with a password? Then no worry you can easily protect your shared albums in iPhoto. While setting up a password involves a long series of steps and is quite straightforward and easy to follow.

You can easily password protect your shared albums in iPhoto Preferences. For this you need to open iPhoto Preferences, after that choose the Sharing tab, ensuring checkbox next to require password is selected and select password. It’s done now and when any people would view your iPhoto library album a lock on your album will appear and In order to view the photos of iPhoto a password will be needed.



However, if you have published the album without a password then also you can Password protect photos iPhoto. For adding password protection to it you need follow:

  • Open iPhoto
  • Choose the album in which you desire to add a password.
  • Click on the settings icon.
  • Then from "Album Viewable by" choose "Edit names and passwords".
  • Then click on the Add (+) button.
  • Enter user name and password.
  • Click OK and change the other settings which you desire after then click on the Publish.


It is advised that you make a backup of everything stop voiding mess with anything which you do not understand. There is another method also by which you can Password protect photos iPhoto. For this you need to create encrypted sparse disk image using the functionality in Disk Utility. Mount the image and you will be asked for a password at this time. Do protect your iPhoto Tags and you can put password for its secrecy.

  • Copy photo library to mounted image.
  • Just move your original iPhoto library to another location.
  • To the copy of your iPhoto library create an alias which is now in the mounted image in the user's Pictures directory.
  • Launch iPhoto for testing.
  • Quit iPhoto.
  • Then eject the mounted disk image.

For seeing the protection is in place try by launching the iPhoto and it will ask for a mounted image then give it, and the image will mount.
